NICHE.com, an education ranking website, has selected Southern University and A&M College as the 10th best among Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

When Southern University Jaguar defensive back Jamaal Ali Martin decided to be the best he could be academically, he never had a vision of being anything other than a very good college student. "It was solely to prove everybody who doubted me, or counted me out, wrong," Martin says. "Now I can say 'I told you so.'"

On Dec. 3, SU alum and Baton Rouge high school biology teacher, Crystal Williams Gordon was acknowledged in The Advocate newspaper for winning the Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence.

Southern University Lane Williams, a sophomore physics major, was named Tom Joyner's Hercules Scholar on Thursday, Nov. 27 during "The Tom Joyner Morning Show" and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
