Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Mass Communication at Southern University and A&M College is to prepare students through a liberal arts education and understanding of the emerging media technology to assume successful careers and further studies in broadcasting, print journalism and public relations, to impact the skills, knowledge, and attitudes most needed and highly valued in journalism and mass communication today.  As a teaching unit, the department aims to foster an interactive and supportive environment characterized by diversity, creativity, ethics and critical thinking in the service of democratic ideals through teaching and community service.
