Gian McCann is originally from Olney, Maryland. Upon graduation from the University of Maryland–Baltimore County in 2014 with a B.A. in English, Gian worked for the Governance Commission of Liberia and the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Belize in a communications research capacity. After returning to the USA and graduating with an M.A. in “Texts, Technologies, and Literature," Gian taught Freshman Composition and Literature courses at Stevenson University, Marymount University, and the University of Maryland–Baltimore County. Gian then pursued a desire to work in an HBCU setting, choosing Southern University because of its excellent academic standing and prominence among HBCUs.
