Office of Governmental Contracting Services

The Office of Governmental Contracting Services is a premier self-funded entity for research and contracting opportunities, located on the campus of Southern University Baton Rouge.

OGCS is a division of The Office of Research and Strategic Initiatives. The center was developed in 1986 to promote interdisciplinary research and coordinate environmental energy curricula development activities. OGCS has served as a catalyst and foundation for the growth and development of contracting initiatives at the university, such as the DoD Mentor Protégé Program.

The success of this program opened the door to today's contracting initiatives at the university. Securing over twenty-five million dollars in contracts and partnerships with various federal, state, and private agencies, the Office has helped the university position itself as one of the leading Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that can successfully respond to the contracting needs of the federal government. OGCS is one of few offices at a Historically Black College and University to serve as a prime contractor on three federal Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts with the US Army Corps of Engineers and subcontractor on fifty-plus contracts with agencies such as the US Air Force, US Navy, NASA, US Department of Agriculture, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Health and Hospitals.

Contracting initiatives have helped to support and elevate the university's capabilities and infrastructure. The office extends its contracting management services to departments throughout the campus. OGCS has engaged faculty from the College of Engineering, College of Business, Center for Social Research, Department of Computer Science, and SU Agriculture and Research Extension Center through these partnerships.
