State Licensure

The program at Southern University is designed to provide opportunities for students to meet requirements for licensure in the state of Louisiana. The courses offered in the program also prepare students to apply for certification with the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association. Students are required to pass the praxis examination in order to meet CAA/CFCC standards. Students are also made available the requirements for credentialing in different states in the US via the graduate student handbook, clinic handbook, and during student orientation at the beginning and towards the completion of the program. In addition to national certification, each individual will also need to pursue licensure in the state of their choice. Students graduating from Southern University and A&M College will have completed all course and clinical work needed to obtain a license from Louisiana. If an individual chooses to apply for licensure in another state, that individual will need to contact the State Licensure Board in that state for information on requirements for licensing in that state.
