About Us

Southern University is one of the first Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the country to offer an undergraduate degree program in Speech Pathology in the late 1950s. In 1985, the program was expanded and its first graduate students were enrolled in the master's program.

The graduate program offers work leading to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Clinic is an integral part of the master's degree program. The clinic offers students the opportunity to gain experience in a professional setting under the supervision of speech-language pathologists and audiologists certified by ASHA and licensed by the State of Louisiana. Therapeutic intervention and rehabilitative services for diagnosing speech and language problems across the lifespan are available in the clinic.
