Dance Minor Curriculum Guide
Total Credit Hours Required: 18
The Dance Minor provides students with a comprehensive foundation in dance technique, performance, choreography, history, and pedagogy. Through coursework and performance opportunities, students develop technical proficiency, artistic expression, cultural awareness, and practical experience in dance as both an art form and a field of study.
The Dance Minor requires 18 credit hours of DANC coursework distributed across required technique courses, prescribed electives, and dance electives.
Required Technique Courses
(8 Credit Hours Required)
Students must successfully complete the following foundational technique courses:

Placement and Prerequisites
Students must satisfy all course prerequisites before registering for advanced coursework. Students with previous dance training and intermediate-to-advanced experience may audition for placement and, when appropriate, receive permission to place out of introductory-level technique courses.
Prescribed Electives

All Dance Minors are required to complete:

In addition, students must complete one (1) of the following courses:

DANC 310 – Anatomy of the Body for Dance (3 credit hours)

DANC 311 – Dance Composition II (3 credit hours)

DANC 403 – Introduction to Teaching Dance: Dance Pedagogy for a Diverse World (3 credit hours)
Course selections should be made in consultation with the program coordinator or dance minor advisor.
