Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program was established in 1996 and offers a specialty in Family Health Nursing, with role concentrations in Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). The program is nationally recognized for producing the largest number of African American Family Nurse Practitioners in the United States, according to the Diversity in Higher Education Annual Report. Notably, nearly 75% of African American FNPs practicing in the state of Louisiana are graduates of the program, underscoring its critical role in building a diverse and representative nursing workforce.
The Family Nurse Practitioner certification examination pass rates exceed the national average, reflecting the program’s academic rigor and effectiveness in preparing advanced practice nurses. In recognition of its excellence, the MSN Program was awarded Graduate Nursing Program of the Year by the Louisiana State Nurses Association in 2023.
