Admission to the College of Engineering (COE) is open to freshman students, who have successfully completed the Basic Freshman Studies Program in University College, students who wish to transfer from other degree-granting areas of the University, and transfer students from approved colleges and universities.

Transfer from University College

To be admitted to the CoE, students in University College must have:

1)

Qualified to exit from University College,

2)

Completed a minimum of 24 credit hours with a GPA of 2.2/4.0 or better for those
desiring to major in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering; OR a GPA of 2.0/4.0 or
better if they desire to major in electronics engineering technology, and

3)

Earned a "C" or better in each of the following courses:

a)

MATH 264 (Calculus I) ~ for those desiring to major in civil, electrical, or mechanical
engineering; or MATH 135 (Pre-Calculus I) ~ for those desiring to major in
electronics engineering technology

b)

ENGR 120 (Introduction to Engineering and Technology)

c)

Students who satisfy conditions 1 and 2, but have not adequately passed all courses cited in condition 3, can be "Conditionally Admitted." This action is contingent upon students enrolling at the next opportunity in each course cited in which they have not earned a "C" or better. Until this condition is met, students will be denied permission to continue taking engineering courses.

Students, wishing to request admission into the COE under the conditions cited above should
visit the Records and Transfer Center in University College and have a copy of the COE
Entry Evaluation Form filled out and sign by a representative; it should then be submitted to
the Associate Dean of Engineering for approval and certification.

Transfer from Other Areas of the University

Students wishing to transfer from other colleges at the University must meet the same requirements as those transferring from University College.

Transfers credits are acceptable for degree programs in the college if they satisfy course requirements in the appropriate curriculum. Course work pursued at other colleges shall be reviewed and approved by the appropriate departmental chair and by the dean of the college for its applicability to the specific requirements for a degree.

Transfer from other universities

Students wishing to transfer from other approved colleges or universities must meet the admission requirements of the University and the requirements for students transferring from University College.

Transfer students must submit an official transcript of courses completed at other institutions, together with evidence of good standing, to the Registrar at Southern University, Baton Rouge. Course work pursued at other institutions shall be reviewed by the departmental chair and the dean of the college for its applicability to the requirements for a degree.
