Empowering the Next Generation of Engineering Leaders

A central objective of our project is to cultivate leadership and professional development among undergraduate students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Southern University. Selected as part of a dynamic research team, these students actively engage in a wide range of outreach and academic activities that extend beyond the university.

Our undergraduate researchers have played an important role in representing the ECE Department through workshops and outreach initiatives targeting middle and high school students. These experiences have not only introduced younger students to the exciting world of electronics, robotics, and various domains within electrical and computer engineering but have also equipped our team with a solid academic foundation and practical skills.

Through this initiative, our students have grown into confident mentors, capable of guiding their peers in the Computer Engineering Research Lab (CERL) and serving as ambassadors of STEM education in local communities. Their leadership in organizing and delivering workshops, along with coordinating successful school visits, has provided them with invaluable experience in communication, team management, and research presentation.

This project continues to foster a culture of excellence, inspiring both current and future generations of engineers.
