Erica Hughes is a 2005 College of Business Graduate.  While pursuing her undergrad she interned with International Paper (Shorewood Packaging Plant, East Flat Rock, NC) in 2004.  And as her Community Service project, she joined Operations Crossroads to Africa and spent eight weeks in Penyem Village, Gambia, summer 2003.  After graduating, Erica worked in Hospice Outreach, educating the community on the benefits of Hospice. 

Eventually Erica moved on and accepted a position with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid (LOSFA) in 2008, managing state grants and federal Scholarships such as the GO grant, the Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship, and various other grants and scholarships.  While there she decided to further her education and received her Master’s in Public Administration from Southern University in spring 2015.

By the end of 2015, Erica accepted a position with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) in Institutional Research (IR).  While there she championed many projects such as implementing and revising several policies and procedures as it pertained to curriculum development, program review, assessment, and institutional research and effectiveness.  She has been recognized by her peers on several occasions, in 2017 she was awarded the Association of Institutional Research travel grant and in 2018, she received the SACSCOC Travel grant. She is also a professionally trained SACSCOC Institutional Effectiveness Evaluator.  Her greatest accomplishment while at LCTCS was successfully acquiring a grant through the Lumina foundation, The Credential Engine. The funds will help develop a portal that will promote credential transparency by providing Louisiana residents who are looking for education and training options the data to make well-informed decisions and enable Industry based credential (IBC) providers and employers a better way to evaluate and validate credential’s to meet business needs.

Currently, Erica is the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation, and the SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison for South Louisiana Community College. Her responsibilities include providing oversight for strategic planning, faculty credentialing, program assessment and review, and institutional policies as it pertains to accreditation.  She also act as the chief reporter and contact for SLCC regional accreditor, SACSCOC. Erica is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Public Policy at Southern University’s Nelson Mandela’s School of public policy with an expected graduation date of spring 2021.
