The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Unit at Southern University, established in 1971, offers a unique opportunity for dedicated students from Southern University, Louisiana State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Baton Rouge Community College. We are committed to preparing our students mentally, morally, and physically for commissioning as officers in the United States Navy or Marine Corps, fostering leaders who are ready to serve.

We aim to commission college graduates as naval officers who possess a basic professional background, are motivated toward careers in the naval service, and have a potential for future development in mind and character. Through rigorous training and education, we prepare our cadets to lead and serve in the United States Navy and Marine Corps.




Joining the program

College Programmers are students who join the Navy ROTC unit without an initial scholarship but are dedicated to pursuing a commission as a naval officer. These students participate fully in the ROTC program, receiving training, education, and mentorship while demonstrating their commitment and potential. They have the opportunity to compete for a scholarship during their time in the program based on their performance and academic achievements. College Programmers are integral members of the unit, contributing to the team and gaining valuable leadership experience.

National
Scholarship

Scholarship Students are those who have been awarded a Navy ROTC scholarship, which covers tuition, fees, and other expenses. These students are selected based on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to service. Scholarship Students receive rigorous training and education to prepare them for commissioning as naval officers. They are expected to maintain high standards of performance and are provided with resources and support to excel in their studies and ROTC activities. Through their dedication and hard work, Scholarship Students exemplify the values and mission of the Navy ROTC program.
