Engineering Scholarship Policy

ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

The College of Sciences and Engineering (CSE) awards engineering scholarships to qualified students who major in an engineering discipline. The CSE hosts the following engineering disciplines:

Engineering scholarships in the CSE are supported by foundations, industries, corporations, and governmental agencies. Recipients receive awards ranging from $1000 to $5,000 per academic year for four years or up to eight academic semesters, provided funds are available to do so and upon the corporate sponsors' decisions. Awards are renewed each semester following a review of a student's academic performance and certification of satisfactory progress toward degree requirements. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Incoming first year students must:

1.

declare a major in an engineering discipline;

2.

have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale);

3.

submit official seven semester high school transcripts;

4.

submit official ACT (SAT) scores of 21 (1060 - 1090) or better;

5.

submit two letters of recommendation; and

6.

meet the March 1 application submission deadline.

Upperclassmen must:

1.

be enrolled full-time in an engineering program;

2.

be in good standing at the university;

3.

have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale);

4.

submit official college transcripts;

5.

submit official ACT (SAT) scores;

6.

submit two letters of recommendation; and

7.

meet the March 1 application submission deadline.

Transfer Students Must:

1.

be enrolled full-time in an engineering program at Southern University for at least one semester;

2.

be in good standing at the university;

3.

have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale);

4.

submit official college transcripts;

5.

submit official ACT (SAT) scores;

6.

submit two letters of recommendation; and

7.

meet the March 1 application submission deadline.
