Chairman's Message
The Southern University Department of Electrical Engineering. Electrical Engineering is the dynamic branch of the engineering profession involved in the design of devices that create and control electrical energy. Increasingly, Electrical Engineers are also being called upon to design devices that create and harness photonic energy.
Our department offers the bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) and the bachelor of science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET). The department will also be an active participant in the new Master of Engineering graduate program beginning Spring 2002. We are now in the planning stages for a Computer Engineering program to be offered in the very near future. In addition to our standard degree programs and course offerings, other courses and dual degree programs are available through this department's participation in inter-institutional programs with several other universities.
Our goal is to produce graduates capable of excelling in industry and in graduate school. The faculty of this department pursues a "customer focused" approach to higher education where the needs, interests, and career goals of the individual student is our primary concern. While we provide a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of EE and EET, we also provide our students with practical instruction in the political realities of the work place through our "Real World" seminar series.
In addition to our academic pursuits, EE department faculty members keep their skills and knowledge current through research, summer employment, and consultative work with industry and government agencies.
The department's primary offices and laboratories are located on the fourth floor of the new state-of-the-art Engineering Complex. The department maintains additional offices and laboratories in James B. Moore Hall. We encourage personal visits and invite prospective students and other interested parties to contact the Chairman's office at (225) 771-5292 to make arrangements.
