Mission Statement

 

The mission of the department is to prepare students to compete in the global market place in their profession, and to strive for excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service.

 

 

Program Educational Objectives

The mechanical engineering curriculum at Southern University is dedicated to preparing students for productive careers in the state, nation, and the world.  Within a few years after graduation, graduates of the mechanical engineering programs will have:

 

PEO-1: Utilized a foundation in engineering and science using modern tools to improve lives and livelihoods through a successful career in mechanical engineering or other fields.

PEO-2: Become effective collaborators and innovators, leading or participating in efforts to address social, technical and business challenges in a professional and ethhical manner.

PEO-3:  Pursued in life-long learning and professional development through self-study, continuing education or graduate and professional studies to address the societal needs.
