The Mechanical Engineering (ME) undergraduate curriculum is designed to prepare students who can compete favorably in their respective professions. The ME curriculum has a freshman year, which is common with other engineering departments in the College of Sciences and Engineering. The mechanical engineering courses taken in the sophomore and junior years are analytical and design oriented. The design oriented courses are assessed based on open-ended problems, team work, hands-on, multidisciplinary, and communication skills.  The following links provide more detailed information and resources regarding our program.

Mechanical Engineering Graduation Application Information 

Graduation Application Deadlines:

• Spring 2027- November 1, 2026
• Summer 2027- March 30, 2027
• Fall 2027- April 15, 2027
• Sping 2028- November 1, 2027
• Summer 2028- March 30, 2028
• Fall 2028- April 15, 2028

Graduation Eligibility Requirements:

• Successfully complete the 128-credit-hour Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
• Earn a grade of "C" or higher in all required Mechanical Engineering core and common courses.
• Complete all required General Education, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, and Technical Elective coursework as outlined in the approved degree plan.
• Meet with your academic advisor to verify that all degree requirements have been satisfied prior to applying for graduation.
• Ensure your degree audit reflects that all remaining graduation requirements can be completed by the anticipated graduation term.
• Submit a complete Graduation Application Package by the published departmental deadline.
• Resolve any outstanding university financial, academic, or administrative obligations that may delay the awarding of your degree.
• Regularly monitor your Southern University email for updates regarding your graduation status.

Transfer Credit Articulation

If you have completed coursework at another institution and the course appears on your Southern University transcript as XXXB, the course has not yet been articulated into Southern University's system. Before your graduation application can be processed, you must request a course articulation through the Office of the University Registrar's Transfer Center.

To begin the process, email transfercenter@sus.edu and carefully follow the instructions provided in the automated response. The automated email will outline the required documentation and steps needed to evaluate and articulate your transfer credit. Please allow adequate processing time, as graduation applications may be delayed until all transfer coursework has been properly articulated.
