Dual Enrollment Staff Responsibilities (Instructors and Course Facilitators)
DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM
Course Facilitator Responsibilities
1. Communication:
- Maintain open and effective communication with university professors/instructors, High School liaisons (e.g., principals, assistant principals, and guidance counselors) and Dual Enrollment Program staff.
- Connect with the course professor/instructor of record to coordinate preferred channels of communication and to establish expectations regarding response times. We strongly urge phone communication / video conferencing in situations that are time-sensitive and require extensive explanations/communication.
2. Orientation and onboarding:
- Ensure that students access the course syllabus and review with them in a group setting, if possible.
- Review with students any additional written or digitized program.
- Emphasize to students the importance of “self-advocacy” in college and provide examples. Indicate that you will only intervene to advocate on a student’s behalf for extenuating circumstances.
3. Technology and Resources:
- Familiarize students with course-related technology and online platforms
- Help students access course materials, textbooks and digital
- Make sure students are able to log into CANVAS, their Learning Management System (LMS).

- Make sure students can log into their SU email accounts, reminding them that ALL communication with their professors must go through their university email. Please emphasize to students that email should be checked regularly. They must not go beyond a week without logging in for updates/information. - NOTE: Your official university email address ends in sus.edu. DO NOT use subr.edu as a login username.
4. Student Support:
- Provide academic support to dual enrollment students, including tutoring, clarification of course content, and study strategies.
- Assist students in accessing and navigating college resources and support.
- If a student has formally requested accommodations with the Office of Disability Services, ensure that accommodations are being extended in assignments/assessments. 5. Record-Keeping:
- You should keep a separate gradebook
- Be aware of assessments in Canvas and check student work.
6. Professional Development:
- Participate in any professional development opportunities offered by Southern University for DE staff and faculty.
7. Feedback and Evaluation:
- Collect and provide feedback (through our survey) on the effectiveness of the dual enrollment program and course delivery.
- Collaborate with program administrator and college faculty to make any necessary improvements.
DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM
Professor/Instructor Responsibilities
1. Teaching:
- Deliver high-quality instruction to dual enrollment students in accordance with the curriculum and standards set by the university and high This includes preparing lesson plans, conducting lectures, leading discussions, and assessing student performance.
2. Assessment and Grading:
- Design and implement assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress. Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and assessments. Following university grading policies.
3. Communication:
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, Course Facilitators and Dual Enrollment Director. Keeping stakeholders informed about course expectations, progress, and any relevant updates.
- Provide a reasonably prompt response to student email (No later than 72 hours, if possible).
- Connect with the Course Facilitator to coordinate preferred channels of communication and to establish expectations regarding response times. We strongly urge phone communication / video conferencing in situations that are time-sensitive and require extensive explanations/communication.
4. Advising and Support:
- Offer academic guidance and support to dual enrollment This may include helping them navigate the transition to a college-level environment, providing information about university resources, and assisting with any challenges they may face.
5. Professional Development:
- Engage in professional development provided by our department to stay current with Dual Enrollment educational trends, teaching methodologies, and any changes in the program's/state’s policies or requirements.
6. Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and any other relevant information. Ensure compliance with university and high school policies regarding documentation and reporting.
7. Adherence to Policies:
- Follow and enforce university policies (e.g., FERPA, Academic Integrity, Disability Services, etc.)
8. Student Evaluations:
- Continuously assess student progress and adapt instruction as needed to meet their academic Identify students who may require additional support and refer them to appropriate resources.
9. Promotion of College Readiness:
- Encourage dual enrollment students to develop strong study skills, time management, and critical thinking abilities that will prepare them for success in college.
