As a Southern University student, you already have access to valuable campus resources that support your success inside and outside of the classroom. These services can help with tutoring, writing, test preparation, academic skill building, career readiness, technology support, accessibility accommodations, library research, and student health needs.

Tutoring Services

Free academic tutoring is available to support understanding in freshman, sophomore, and some upper-level courses. Students can also access study space, computers, and peer support.

Academic Coaching & Supplemental Support

The Center for Student Success supports students with academic coaching, supplemental instruction, and other student success initiatives that strengthen performance, persistence, and progress toward graduation.

These supports are especially helpful for building study habits, time management, accountability, and confidence.

Writing & Communication Support

Students can strengthen essays, reports, presentations, and other communication assignments through the University Writing and Communication Center.

Career Services helps students connect classroom learning to career goals through career planning, job preparation, and employment support.

The Student Health Center provides primary care for routine acute and chronic illnesses, in-house pharmacy support, lab services, health education, and additional student health services.

Center for Student Success

Southern University created the Center for Student Success to help support students as they transition into and through college. The Center connects students with resources that strengthen academic performance, improve persistence, and support progress toward graduation.

Through tutoring, academic coaching, supplemental instruction, and student success initiatives, the Center for Student Success plays an important role in helping students build strong academic habits and stay on track.

Also Good to Know

  • Many academic support resources are already available to students at no additional cost.
  • The Student Health Center notes that prepaid student fees cover provider visits and medications dispensed by its pharmacy, with some exclusions.
  • Students needing mental health support may be referred through or connected with the Counseling Center.
